Posting this again, as many of my indian friends have been asking about the process of obtaining an International Driving Permit (IDP) for motorcycle tours in Nepal. One of our friends recently obtained an IDP from India for riding in Nepal. While Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Nepal, Indian RTOs generally do not issue an IDP specifically for Nepal. However, an IDP can be issued for countries that are either visa-required or listed as eligible destinations in the RTO system. To complete the process, the IDP application was submitted online through the official RTO portal by selecting Malaysia as the destination country instead of Nepal. Malaysia is a visa-on-arrival country for Indian passport holders, which means no prior visa documentation is required at the time of application. The application was accepted without any issues. The RTO confirmed that IDPs are issued only for visa-required or eligible countries listed in the system. After submission, the IDP was processed and issued within a few working days. Once issued, the same IDP was used in Nepal without any problems, including for motorcycle riding. This method has been used successfully on previous Nepal trips as well. So, if you’re planning a motorcycle tour in Nepal, don’t forget to arrange your IDP in advance and enjoy the ride across this beautiful country. Hope this helps fellow riders planning a Nepal adventure. Ride safe and enjoy Nepal! 🏍️🇳🇵
